It’s What’s Inside transforms a high school reunion into an entertaining puzzle-like experience full of twists that will keep you guessing until the end.

It’s What’s Inside starts with a reunion of high school friends who haven’t seen each other in years. They’re all there for one of their weddings, and while there’s some excitement, the awkwardness is obvious as they try to catch up and realize how much they’ve drifted apart and how dissatisfied they are with the way their lives turned out. The atmosphere is filled with nostalgia and tension, especially with the absence of Forbes—a classmate who was expelled after a wild party incident involving several members of the group. Just when it seems the reunion might fizzle out, Forbes shows up unexpectedly, suitcase in hand, instantly changing the mood and setting the stage for the chaos that follows.

What happens next is a wild ride of darkly funny twists and thrilling turns as the friends get pulled into a game that reveals hidden truths and buried feelings. The film shows how quickly people’s true personalities come out, with couples facing off against each other as old grudges rise to the surface. Greg Jardin’s debut feature, celebrated at Sundance and SXSW, skillfully mixes elements of thriller, dark comedy, and sci-fi. His flashy style—filled with quick cuts, lively camera movements, and split screens—keeps the pace fast and exciting, while the editing matches the growing tension among the characters. The film carefully uncovers layers of intrigue, keeping viewers on their toes as relationships change and secrets come out.

While the characters may not leave a lasting impression on their own, each one is different enough to help move the story along. The cast does a good job of showing their personalities and growing throughout the night. Although the film doesn’t dig into deeper themes or offer a hidden message like the similar Bodies Bodies Bodies, its fun, puzzle-like structure ensures an enjoyable watch, perfect for those looking for unpredictable entertainment. The ending may tie everything up a bit too neatly, but it doesn’t disappoint, making It’s What’s Inside an entertaining experience that will keep viewers guessing at every turn.
