Saulo is Brazilian. He lives in Toronto. He works in tech, goes to the gym, studies film at the University of Toronto, and spends most of his vacations at film festivals. He also collects things, mostly movies. He buys more than he should.
His wife Michelle also works in tech, goes to the gym, and watches movies. She likes documentaries and films with twists. She thinks he spends too much. When they disagree, she is usually right.
Together, they maintain Reviews On Reels as a place for film criticism that cares as much about context and perspective as it does about opinion.
They believe that where a film came from, what it was trying to be, who made it, and why it exists all shape the experience of watching it, so context gets its own dedicated section.
Each review follows four parts. OVERVIEW tells you what the film is. BACKGROUND tells you where it came from. EXECUTION looks at the craft. AFTERTASTE is the verdict.
Reviews are spoiler-free and work whether you read them before or after seeing the film (or both).
